Nelson Rodrigues's Wedding Dress is a landmark play from 1943 about a young bride, Alaíde, who, on her deathbed after a car accident, experiences a non-linear blend of memories, hallucinations, and dreamlike sequences that reveal hidden familial conflicts, repressed desires, and societal taboos. It follows Alaíde's attempt to make sense of her life, guided by the ghost of a former courtesan, while confronting her guilt, the passions within her family, and the oppressive social norms of her time.
