Mei Mei and her father welcome her grandmother, who arrives to help them prepare for Chinese New Year while Mei Mei’s mother is away. Along the way, and through a series of family interactions, rehearsals, and performances, Mei Mei learns about traditional customs, taboos, and cultural practices associated with the celebration. Initially unfamiliar with these traditions, she begins to understand their meaning through her grandmother’s guidance. By Chinese New Year Day, Mei Mei embraces both modern life and cultural heritage, learning the importance of family, respect for tradition, and starting the new year with positivity and renewal.
